Our Approach

When Chloe was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, we didn't know what to expect.  We were lucky to have a great inter-disciplinary team at McMaster Children's Hospital.  They reassured us that everything was going to be ok.  This reassurance was very important.

The team consisted of an Endocrinologist, Nurse Practitioner, Child Life Educator, Social Worker and Dietitian.   We learned a lot, but putting things into practice was a challenge on its own.

We wanted to share our story, well Chloe's story, but our experiences and the honest and blunt truth of what it is like.

This is us

I'm a single dad of two amazing girls. Regular everyday people.  We enjoy going out to restaurants, travelling and exploring new things.  For the girls, life right now is about LOL dolls, rock collections and art.

I was 4 yrs old when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  I didn't understand what was going on.  Why do I have to have so many needles?

Me

I didn't fully understand what was going on.  Neither Chloe's mother or I have a family history of diabetes.  Why did this happen to my little girl?

Big Sister

I didn't know what was happening.  My parents said that Chloe was sick, but she wasn't sick.  We were just playing and having a fun time.
